The Chevy Trax is a well-rounded subcompact crossover, offering a comfortable, spacious cabin, bold styling, and plentiful practicality in a city-friendly package. It got even better in 2024, entering its second generation with roomier accommodations, an updated interior and exterior design, and more standard features. The Chevy Trax's redesign was impressive enough to earn a coveted Car and Driver 10Best award – and shoppers from Topeka to Kansas City can see it here at Dale Willey Automotive.

While there are plenty of options in the subcompact segment, the Chevy Trax stands tall as one of the most compelling models. Here's a quick look at how it compares in a few key areas to a prominent class competitor, the Honda HR-V.

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs. Honda HR-V: Performance

The 2024 Chevy Trax is propelled by a peppy yet economical 1.2-liter turbo-three engine. While it produces less horsepower than the Honda HR-V (137 vs. 158), the Trax generates significantly more torque (162 vs. 138 pound-feet). It also has a six-speed automatic transmission compared to the HR-V's less-refined CVT. As such, the Trax reaches 60 mph from a standstill more than a half-second quicker than the HR-V: 8.8 vs. 9.4 seconds, according to Car and Driver.

Despite its relative acceleration advantage, the Trax is also more efficient, achieving an EPA-estimated 30 mpg compared to 28 mpg in the HR-V.1

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs. Honda HR-V: Accommodations

While the Chevy Trax and Honda HR-V each offer impressively roomy cabins for the subcompact crossover segment, the Trax provides more space for your passengers. Rear seat occupants, in particular, will appreciate the Trax for its extra inch of legroom.

Both models offer more than 54 cubic feet of max cargo capacity with the second row folded. However, with the rear seats up, the Trax holds a slight edge, with 25.6 cubic feet compared to 24.4 in the HR-V.

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs. Honda HR-V: Infotainment

The 2024 Chevy Trax comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, providing clutter-free access to smartphone features like hands-free calls, music, streaming media, Google or Apple Maps, and more. However, step up to the LT trim, and you'll get a large 11-inch infotainment display and a stylish, fully digital Driver Information Center.

The Honda HR-V comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen and wired smartphone integration. A 9-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone integration are available, but only for the top trim level. The HR-V also doesn't offer a fully digital instrument cluster.

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs. Honda HR-V: Value

The 2024 Chevy Trax offers much more for your money. For about the cost of a base-model Honda HR-V LX, you can get a top-tier Chevy Trax 2RS with amenities like:

  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Automatic climate control
  • Proximity keyless access
  • Remote start
  • 11-inch touchscreen
  • Digital instrument panel
  • 8-way power driver seat
